ABSTRACT
The heart is a muscle that squeezes blood and functions like a pump. Each part of the heart is susceptible to failure or dysfunction and the heart can be divided into the mechanical and the electrical parts. The electrical part of the heart is centered on the periodic contraction (squeezing) of the muscle cells that are caused by the cardiac pacemaker located in the sinoatrial node. The study was conducted at department of cardiology in a tertiary care hospital. The study was conducted for six months. We went through prescriptions of patients attended cardiology inpatient department within the study period. Different diagnoses were sorted. Drug utilization were assessed Using
WHO core prescribing indicators. 180 patients of either sex having cardiovascular disease with or without co-morbidity attending Cardiology inpatient department were selected after obtaining written consent. The study concludes that the hypertension and diabetes mellitus were the most common risk factors associated with the cardiovascular system. clopidogrel were the most prescribed antiplatelet drugs for the therapeutic management of cardiovascular disease. In the present study, use of atorvastatin was found to be more among antihyperlipidemic drugs. Rosuvastatin was found to be the next common drug to be used in CVD patients.
