Abstract

ISOLATION AND OPTIMIZATION OF ANTIMICROBIAL PRODUCING ENDOPHYTIC BACTERIA FROM MANGROVE PLANTS

D. Saravanan*, V. Anusha Jeslin and A. Aruna

ABSTRACT

In the present study, endophytic bacteria, isolated from three different mangrove leaves collected from Pichavaram, Tamilnadu. Three different mangrove leaves was collected. Isolation of endophytic bacteria was performed by standard procedures. Bioactive producing potent endophytic bacteria was selected and studied for bioactive compound production. In total 41 morphologically different bacterial isolates were isolated from the leaf samples of mangrove plants. Fourty one isolates was screened for antimicrobial activity. Out of 41 isolates RA4 has selected as potent isolate which shows activity against most of test organisms. Purification of crude compound was done by Thin Layer Chromatography and active spot was detected by bioautography. Chemical screening shows that the active compound belongs to the anthraquinone group. Optimization studies shows that production of crude compound was enhanced when glucose, peptone, 96hrs of incubation time, ph of 7and temperature of 30˚C was added to fermentation medium. The findings of this present study was found that endophytic bacteria from mangrove plants will be a potential source for production of novel bioactive compounds against resistant organisms.
