ABSTRACT
A microsphere has the properties of a free-flowing powder that includes proteins and a synthetic or natural polymer. This polymer is biodegradable in nature and the particle size is less than 200 μm. The advanced drug delivery system has various advantages over conventional multi-dose therapy. Microsphere drug delivery systems are acceptable for delayed or sustained release formulation with minimal risk of dose repeatability and short gastric residence time. This review provides a complete discussion of the therapeutic aspects of the microsphere drug delivery system considering the desired area for the microparticles, the types of polymers used, the method of preparation,
the type of microspheres in detail, the parameters and targeting of the microspheres, and the practical aspects of the microspheres.
