ABSTRACT
Capsaicin is an important pharmacological agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, neuralgias, and diabetic neuropathy. The existence of a carbon-carbon double bond in capsaicin differentiates it from dihydrocapsaicin. Capsicum extracts are used to make a variety of medicinal formulations for external application (tincture, solution, ointment, gel, and cream). This article aims to highlight the analytical and bio-analytical techniques that have been used to estimate capsaicin both on its own and in pharmaceutical dosage forms when combined with other medications. These techniques include UV, HPLC, LC-MS/MS, and UHPLC- MS.Various analytical methods for estimating these drugs in their individual and combined dosage forms have been reported.
