STUDY ON ESLICARBAZEPINE ACETATE IN ADULT GENERALIZED SEIZURES

ABSTRACT
The treatments for seizures are usually aimed at improving the clinical
condition of the patient by reducing the seizure frequency and adverse
drug reactions.Eslicarbazepine acetate is a newly approved
antiepileptic drug used as adjunctive therapy for partial onset seizures.
Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of
Eslicarbazepine acetate and also to assess adverse drug reactions of
Eslicarbazepine acetate. Method: This study was a prospective
interventional study. A total of 35 patients were included in the study.
Results: After administration of Eslicarbazepine acetate, all patients
(100%) were seizure free with very low incidence of adverse effects.
Majority of patients experienced sleepiness, headache, confusion,
fatigue, agitation and memory problems. Conclusion:Eslicarbazepine acetate monotherapy
was found to be effective and safe in partial and generalized seizure patients.
