ABSTRACT
Currently, internet of things (IoT)-based technologies are used in many areas. Drug discovery and development are two of the major platforms in medical science. On the other hand, conventional care in disease diagnosis and treatment may cause many difficulties, such as slowing the overall outcomes, reducing the success rate, increasing treatment duration, increasing suffering, increasing the risk of treatment failure, increasing the cost, and so on. IoT supports different hardware and software devices that can communicate smartly and solve many hard tasks efficiently and within a short time. Many sensor networks, including ZigBee, Bluetooth, wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi), radio frequency identification (RFID), internet protocol (IP), and artificial intelligence (AI), are frequently used in IoT technology. This review aims to sketch a perspective on IoT applications in the healthcare section. Findings
suggest that IoT might be a good solution for reducing patient suffering and mortality rates, especially in developing countries where there is a lack of adequate health care facilities such as medical staff, medicines, hospitals, etc. IoT technology can be used in drug discovery and development, disease diagnosis, treatment, and therapeutic monitoring of patients. Additionally, IoT technologies can also be used in advanced drug delivery and ambulance service, social distance maintenance, identification and monitoring of drugs and patients, self-treatment, advanced metering facilities, charting in healthcare, monitoring of adverse drug reactions, rehabilitation centers, child treatment, and treatment of environmental hazards that affect human health. Taken together, IoT can be considered a blessing of modern medical science.
Keywords: Wireless smart technology, drug discovery, disease diagnosis, modern therapy, therapeutic monitoring.
