ABSTRACT
Introduction: Hypertension, Type-2 Diabetes mellitus and Hypothyroidism are the most common metabolic disorders. An estimated 1.13 billion and 436 million people worldwide have Hypothyroidism in India. These chronic conditions required counseling and education. Counselling is a process that upgrades the patient’s ability to cope with their disease and make informed decision regarding management and medication. Objective: To assess the incidence and prevalence of these disorders and to counsel and educate the community mainly on Hypothyroidism. Methodology: An observational prospective cohort study conducted in community over a period of 6 months from November 2020to April 2021. The collected data were analyzed to estimate incidence and prevalence of these disorders in both gender and age between 18-80 with newly or K/C/O
of these disorders without complication and counsel the community to maintain quality of life. Results: Overall, incidence and prevalence of total population (N=782) Hypotension (8.3%), (15.7%); Type-2 Diabetes mellitus (8.5%), (15.9) and Hypothyroidism (15.3%), (7.3%). The medication adherence was measured in Hypothyroidism population by using MMAS-8 in first visit (N=150)(16.6%) and in last visit (N=110)(91%) Conclusion: Our study gives an idea on outcome measures of these metabolic disorders. The prevalence rate of Type-2 Diabetes mellitus and incidence rate of Hypothyroidism were high. The medication adherence has been improved after counselling. This reveals that correct usage of medication plays an important role in patient quality of life.
