ABSTRACT
Siddha system is an ancient medical system mainly practiced in Southern part of India. In Siddha system medicines are mainly prepared from three origins such as plants, minerals and animals. Before the preparation of medicine each raw drug will undergoes into a purification process called “Suththi”. The concept of “Suththi” is not only for purification / detoxification, it also enhances the potency and efficacy of the drug. The objective of the study is to evaluate the compounds present in the Unpurified padigaram and Purified padigaram. The biochemical analysis of the Unpurified padigaram reveals the presence of chloride, sulphate and ferrous iron and the Purified 1 padigaram reveals the presence of sulphate, ferric iron, ferrous iron and amino acid and purified 2 padigaram reveals the presence of sulphate, ferric iron and ferrous iron. The compounds present in the purified padigaram enchances the therapeutic action of the drug.
