REVIEW OF NUTMEG ESSENTIAL OIL

ABSTRACT
The earliest type of healthcare that humans have ever used is herbal medicine. Throughout history, all cultures have made use of herbs. Myristica fragrans Houtt, sometimes known as "Jatiphala," is a popular spice. It is categorised as a spice and utilised in a number of dishes. Fragrans, M.consists of the seed, which is used to flavour a variety of baked items, confections, puddings, meats, sausages, sauces, vegetables, and drinks like eggnog. It also has a distinctive, pleasant scent and a somewhat toasty taste. The ability of M. fragrans Houtt to treat a variety of disorders is due to its numerous phytoconstituents. These plants' antioxidant, antidiarrheal, and anticonvulsant properties are also being explored pharmacologically. This study aims to
highlight the research that is currently available on the ethnobotany, pharmacognostic traits, traditional usage, chemical components, and summary of the numerous pharmacological activities and clinical effects of Myristica fragrans. There is also discussion of other topics including toxicity and safety measures. This will promote interest in nutmeg and could be helpful in the development of novel formulations with greater medicinal and financial potential.
