Abstract

AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF VAIPADIKA KUSHTA WITH THE HELP OF SHAMANANGA SNEHA – A CASE STUDY

Mahesuni Aishwarya Ashok*, Guided by: Dr. Madhu Ranjan

ABSTRACT

Vaipadika kushta comes under kshudra kushta mentioned by acharya charaka and acharya vagbhatta. The disease is characterized by symptoms like itching, scaling and occasional bleeding from palms and soles. There is predominance of Vata and Kapha Dosha in Vaipadika Kustha. The disease closely resembles to Palmoplantar Psoriasis. In India prevalence rate of Psoriasis among total patients attending skin OPD is 2-5%. Modern medical science treats psoriasis with Corticosteroids and Ultraviolet therapy (PUVA). But the disease has high recurrence rate and the modern medications have serious side. Thus there is a need for treatment having good efficacy and no toxicity profile. By considering this fact, this case of vaipadika was successfully treated by Shamananga Sneha with Mahatiktaka Ghrita. As the vaipadika kushta is predominant of vata and kapha, the tiktaka ghrita acts as vatashamana and kapha vilayana. The patient took treatment for 60 days and the symptoms have been reduced remarkably.

Keywords: Vaipadika kushta, Kushta roga, Palmoplantar psoriasis, Shamananga Sneha, Mahatiktaka ghrita, Ayurveda treatment.
