IMPORTANCE OF IMMUNIZATION IN ADULTHOOD- BIRD’S EYE VIEW

ABSTRACT
Vaccination is recommended throughout the life to prevent infectious diseases and their consecution. The government of India and World Health Organization (WHO) consider childhood vaccination is the first priority, but there is not as of yet focus on adult immunization. Adult immunization in India is the most overlook part of heath care services. There is an challenge to address the problem of adult immunization in India. Vaccination is considered one of the historic public health achievements of the 20th century and continues to propose great promise in the 21st century. Vaccines ransom lives and improve the quality of life by preventing severe infectious diseases and their consequences. Vaccines are advised for adults on the basis of their age, health conditions, prior vaccinations, occupation, lifestyle and travel. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention‟s (CDC) counselled clearly identify people who are at risk for these diseases and immunized to prevent these diseases and their complications. There is growing consensus that vaccination is one of the tools that can play an important role in enhance adult health. This review focuses on vaccines which are important for adults to prevent communicable diseases. This article suggest that understanding of vaccination as a health-promoting activity, designed to prevent the spread of a specific pathogen – is a crucial step to improve vaccination. To accelerate consciousness and coverage between adults is an important step in that direction for India.
