BREAKING THE BARRIER OF ANTIBIOTICS RESISTANCE: A REVIEW ON BETA-LACTAMASE INHIBITOR DRUGS
Abhay Kumar Yadav*
ABSTRACT
The increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance has highlighted the urgent need for novel antimicrobial agents that can combat resistant bacteria. Antibiotic resistance has become a global public health concern due to the emergence and spread of multidrug-resistant bacteria. Beta-lactam antibiotics are widely used for the treatment of bacterial infections but are frequently inactivated by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by bacteria. Beta-lactamase inhibitors are drugs used in combination with beta-lactam antibiotics to restore their activity against these bacteria. This review article provides an overview of the beta-lactamase inhibitor drugs and discusses strategies to combat antibiotic resistance, as well as novel approaches in the
development of new beta-lactamase inhibitor drugs.
Keywords: Beta -lactam antibiotics, Beta-lactamase enzymes, Beta-lactamase inhibitors, Antibiotic resistance, Combination Therapy.
