EFFECT OF SWASA KUTHAR RASA IN MANAGEMENT OF TAMAKA SWASA- A DRUG REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Background: Tamaka Swasa, is a Pranvaha Shrotodushti Vikara (disease of respiratory channels) with main clinical features of dyspnoea (Swasakrucchrata), cough (Kasa), nocturnal uneasiness (Nidramlabhteshayanam), which are similar to Bronchial Asthma, an episodic airway disease manifested clinically by paroxysms of dyspnoea, wheezing, chronic cough with a prevalence rate of approximately 2% in adults and 5% in children in India. Objective: This review is aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Swasa Kuthar Rasa in management of Tamaka Swasa and probable mode of action of various contents of Swasa Kuthar Rasa on ayurveda as well as modern disease pathology for Swasa/ Dyspnoea. Swasa Kuthar Rasa is herbo-mineral preparation containing Parada, Gandhaka, Manashila, Tankana, Trikatu i.e., Pippali, Shunthi, Maricha and Vatsanabha. This review evaluates the individual drug component present in Swasa Kuthar Rasa and their individual as well as combined effect on disease pathology of Tamaka Swasa.
