ABSTRACT
Manilkara zapota L is an evergreen and delicious tropical fruit plant which is widely distributed in Indian subcontinent. It grows under (10-380 c) warm condition and 70% humid climatic conditions. It belongs to the sapotaceae family that contains nearly 800 species. It is commonly known as chikoo in India which is having a lifespan up to 100 years. Manilkara zapota L has wide number of uses of to its high content of phytochemical constituents. Quercitrin and gallic acid are responsible for anti-oxidant activity. Manilkara zapota L is also responsible for many biological effects such as anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-cancerous, anti-diabetic, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-arthritis activities. Manilkara zapota L consists of a fruit which was edible and rich in nutrients such as sugars, acids, proteins, amino
acids and minerals such as potassium, calcium and iron. The present review explains about the nutritional values, geographical conditions, propagation, collection and cultivation, phytochemical constitutions and pharmacological activities of Manilkara zapota L.
