PHARMACOLOGICAL PROFILE OF COPTIS TEETA

ABSTRACT
Coptis teeta Small, stemless perennial evergreen herb used in Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani medicine. It is found in Arunachal Pradesh; himalaya region, China, Tibet And Nepal. The root contains principal content as berberine. It also contains another important constituent like coptine or coptina. On the basis of various studies the drug is effective as antidiabetic, bitter tonic, carminative, antihypertensive, expectorant, febrifuge, ophthalmic and stomachic. Drug is mainly used in ophthalmic in the Unani system of medicine as a drug of choice and has proved as a safe drug.
