ASSESSMENT OF ANTIBIOTIC USE USING WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) INDICATORS AT ANDALAS UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL PADANG

ABSTRACT
WHO indicator is one of the guidelines to identify antibiotic use in hospital. WHO indicators include hospital indicators, prescribing indicators, patient care and supplemental indicators. The aim of this study is to examine the use of antibiotics with WHO (World Health Organization) indicators at Andalas University Teaching Hospital Padang. This study is a descriptive observational research with prospective data collection taken from hospital pharmacies and patient medical records in May-June 2019. Data obtained are 214 inpatients and 153 patients who are fitwith the inclusion criteria. The results show that those who are meet with WHO standards are hospitals which have a formularies list with total of 40 antibiotics, purchasing antibiotics from the total hospital drug costs 29.89% and average the
number of antibiotics prescribed for each patient is 2.52. Whereas those who are not meet with WHO standards are the availability of antibiotics at hospital pharmacies 89.34%, average the number of antibiotic days that were not available 1 day / month, patients prescribed one or more antibiotics 71.49%, antibiotics prescribed in accordance with formulary 98.19 %, average the day duration of antibiotics prescribed 2.66 days, antibiotics prescribed with generic names 90.54%, antibiotic doses given 98.45%, average length of stay of patients who received antibiotics 3.87 days and could not do sensitivity tests. Based on these results, it can be concluded that in the use of antibiotics in the Andalas University Teaching Hospital there are still several indicators that do not meet with the WHO indicator standards.
