A CLINICAL CASE STUDY ON AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT IN VARICOSE VEINS

ABSTRACT
Background: Varicose veins are enlarged, swollen, and tortuous veins, which mainly affect lower limbs (legs and feet). There may be involvement of superior veins or deep veins. Varicose veins are not a threat to life but it affects day-to-day activities and conditions worsen with chronicity. In contemporary medicine, compressing and stripping by surgery are mainly used treatments for varicose veins. Varicose veins are described as Siragranthi in Ayurveda. The contemporary treatment for varicose veins includes ligation, ligation with stripping surgical treatments. But these treatments can cause reoccurrence of this
disease. Materials and Methods: This case study of a 40-year-old patient of varicose veins includes Raktamokshana (bloodletting), and Shamanoushadis which showed significant relief in Shoola (pain), Shotha (swelling), and Daha (burning sensation). Results: Patient was advised admission for ten days and was treated with internal medication, external treatments and Siravyadha (venesection). During the treatment all the signs and symptoms of varicosity reduced to a very high extend.
