GENERAL INTRODUCTION & PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF TULSI PLANT

ABSTRACT
One of the aromatic plants is the tulsi, which grows mostly in tropical and subtropical areas of the world, including India. The botanical name of the Tulsi plant is Ocimum sanctum. It is a member of the small family Lamiaceae. Tulsi, also known as the "Queen of Herbs," is known for its numerous medicinal properties in herbal medicines. It is currently grown in Egypt, France, Hungary, Italy, Morocco, and the United States. The fresh leaves and aitha stem of Ocimum sanctum yield a few phenolic compounds, including rosameric acid, circimaritin, cirsilineol, isothymusin, apigenin, and significant quantities of eugenol. Ursolic acid, apigenin-7-O-glucuronide, apigenin, orientin, luteolin-7-O glucuronide, luteolin, and molludistin are all isolated, as are the flavonoids orientin and vicenin. It involves the various pharmacological activity like antifertility activity, anticancer activity, antitussive, therapeutic, antibacterial, antinflamatory, antioxidant, antifungal,ovicidal as well as immunomodulator activity.
