Abstract

ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE, PERCEPTION AND WILLINGNESS OF GENERAL PUBLIC REGARDING THE USE OF TELE –MEDICINE SERVICES

ABSTRACT

Telemedicine is a health-care delivery concept that enables patients (especially in rural areas) to be examined by the physicians using telecommunications technologies instead of personal visits to the healthcare centres. The prefix „tele‟ comes from the Greek word meaning „at a distance‟. Therefore, it means, “Medicine at a Distance”. Telemedicine is one of the most beneficial option for meeting people's demands and necessities. Telemedicine will able to improve patient access and communication thus increasing patient satisfaction. Telemedicine provides the Information regarding disease and injury diagnosis, its treatment, and prevention, research and testing, with the vision of enhancing the longevity of individuals and communities. The areas where health care facilities are rare and where access to medical services is restricted by distance and poor transportation, telemedicine offers possibilities to distribute medical services more equally by utilizing technology, thereby reducing the travelling cost thus making telemedicine as an economically affordable option.
