MANAGEMENT OF MUTRAKRICHHA: A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT
This review summarizes current evidence and recommendations regarding Mutrakrichha, the most common problem in present time. Incidence of UTI is higher in women than men, at a ratio of 8:1. Female sex, obstructive uropathy, severe vesico ureteric reflux, constipation, poor hygienic conditions, environment, poverty and illiteracy these are the predisposing factors, which causes recurrent urinary tract infection. Urinary tract infections are second in frequency after upper respiratory tract infections. Mutrakrichha is a broad term which covers the conditions described in modern medical science as urinary tract infection. In Urinary tract infection (UTI), parts of the urinary tract are affected by the infection. When this infection affects the lower urinary tract then it is called as a simple cystitis (i.e., Urinary bladder infection) and when it affects the upper urinary tract then it is called as pyelonephritis (i.e., kidney infection). Material & Method: The materials were collected from the classical Ayurvedic text’s, Surgery textbooks, magazines and research journals. Discussion: Acharya Charaka and Acharya Susrutha have mentioned 8 types of Mutrakrichra, where in Acharya Susrutha has added Abhigataja Mutra Krichra instead of Raktaja Mutrakrichra. In Ashatanga Sangraha and Ashtanga Hrudaya, Mutrakrichra is classified into 4 types on the basis of Dosha involvement. Conclusion: This article describes Ayurvedic perspective of Mutrakriccha.
