Abstract

AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF ANARTAVA (SECONDARY AMENORRHOEA): A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Anartava literary means the non apperance of Artava. Acharya Sushruta has mentioned the term Nashtartava (destruction of artava), Vagbhata mentioned Anartava (non apperance of Artava). Bhela has described absence of raja & Bhavaprakash has mentioned the term Rajonash. Acharyas described Anartava as a symptom but not as a disorder. Both modern science and ayurveda provide treatments for Anartava, however modern science has few options, such as HRT, whereas Ayurveda specifies a variety of techniques, including oral medication, Basti therapy, lifestyle change, and dietary correction. In this case study Anartava successfully treated by Ayurvedic management. Main clinical finding : A married Hindu female patient of 26 years of age visited to OPD of National institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur on 13 OCT 2021 with chief complaint of Menses comes only after taking medication since 4 years and no menses since 1 year. Diagnosis: Her USG scan suggestive of bilateral polycystic ovary. She also had history of taking oral contraceptive pills 2 times 4 years back. Interventions: Treatment given was Yoga basti with dashmoola kwatha and dashmoola taila along with oral medication. Outcome: Her menses comes after taking 1 yoga basti on 30 Nov 2021.Conclusion: This case study shows the potential of yoga basti in the management of Anartava.
