ABSTRACT
Pindolol is a Non-Selective Beta Blocker (Adrenergic Beta -Antagonists) used in treating Hypertension. The purpose of this study was to develop a Sustained release tablet for Pindolol because of its short biological half-life. Different formulas of 20mg Pindolol were prepared as Oral floating matrix tablets by wet granulation technique, using polymers such as Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC K4M, K100M), Poly Vinyl Pyrrolidone (PVP), alone or in combination and other standard excipients. Sodium bicarbonate as gas – generating agent. Floating Drug Delivery System (FDDS) with a view to improve the Bioavailability, patient compliance and reduce the side effects. The
prepared tablets were evaluated for Hardness, Friability, Floating lag time, and Total floating time, in vitro drug release studies. The data obtained in the in vitro drug release studies were fitted into various kinetic equations like Zero order, Korse- Meyer peppa's equation. Formulation F5 shows good floating lag time (10hrs), Good in vitro drug release. The kinetic data shows the values were best fit for korse Meyer peppa‟s equation, the „n‟ value was found to be 0.8, so it follows -non-fick ion transport of the drug from tablets was confirmed.
Keywords: Pindolol, Gas-generating agent, FDDS, In-vitro Drug Release, Non-fickion transport.
