FAULTY LIFESTYLE AND HYPERTENSION: A PROSPECTIVE CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY IN A COMMUNITY SET UP AMONG HYPERTENSIVE SUBJECTS.

ABSTRACT
Hypertension is a global public health problem with increasing
prevalence. Lifestyle changes can provide beneficial effects in
hypertensive patients. A study was conducted to know the lifestyle of
hypertensive subjects for 1 month. A total of 100 participants
participated in the survey, for assessing life style of the hypertensive
patient, questions used viz; involving in physical activities, sleeping
duration, diet, smoking and alcoholism were served the purpose.
Prevalence of hypertension was seen more in male [57%] compared to
female [43%]. Many participants were lacking physical activities due
to busy schedule i.e; nearly 34% of those working worked for extended
periods of time while seated in a chair, 72% had a practice of
consuming junk food often, 24% of the subjects were smokers/
consumed alcohol. While assessing the sleep habits, 22% slept less than 6 hours per day, and
4% occasionally missed sleep. Research evidence suggest that lifestyle habits may influence
blood pressure. Proper awareness should be generated to follow proper life style.
