ABSTRACT
In the present work, sensitive spectrophotometric method has been
developed for the quantitative estimation of naproxen. Methanol was
selected as a common solvent for estimation of naproxen. Ultraviolet
(UV), first derivative, second derivative, and AUCspectrophotometric
methods for the determination of naproxen in pharmaceutical
formulations have been developed. λmax for naproxen was found to be
231nm. The linearity range was found to be 0.5-3 μgml–1 in methanol
and the regression equation was y = 0.369x + 0.062 (r2=0.999). The
methods were validated by following the analytical performance
parameters suggested by the International Conference on
Harmonization (ICH). All validation parameters were within the
acceptable range. The developed methods were successfully applied to estimate the amount
of naproxen in pharmaceutical formulations.
Keywords: AUC-spectrophotometry, derivative-spectrophotometry, naproxen, UV spectrophotometry.
