CHEMISTRY AND THE EFFECT OF ANETHUM GRAVEOLENS ON THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Anethum Graveolens L. commonly known as dill belonging to the family Umbelliferae is one of the most useful essential oil-bearing spices as well as a medicinal herb. Dill is a medicinal plant. Unhealthy Dietary habits like excessive intake of junk food, improper timing of diet, lack of exercise, and excess stress have made females prone to many gynecological disorders like dysmenorrhoea, infertility, galactagogue, etc. Despite advances in science, the management of gynecological disorders is still not satisfactory. The ayurvedic treatment is more beneficial and has fewer side effects. The use of Anethum graveolens has been described in the treatment of many
diseases in Ayurveda. Anethum graveolens L. is especially used in the female reproductive system but is also used in the anticancer, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory antioxidant, analgesic, gastric mucosal protective and antisecretory effects, smooth muscle relaxant effect, hyperlipidaemic, etc. The beneficiary effect is various disorders in the female reproductive system such as Postpartum hemorrhage, dysmenorrhoea, galactagogue, postmenopausal disorder, and infertility. It is used in the Clinical efficacy of Ayurveda treatment regimen on sub-fertility with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Dill is used also in the food industry for flavoring foods and beverages due to its pleasant spicy aroma.
