REVIEW: MUCOADHESIVE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

The drugs action can be improved by the novel drug delivery systems, such as mucoadhesive drug delivery system. In this system the close contact between the mucoadhesive formulation of drug and mucus membrane.This system release the drug in controlled manner n site of action and improve local and systemic effects. There are various types of advantages of mucoadhesive drug release over the conventional drug release. There are various types of routes for mucoadhesive drug release like buccal, vaginal, rectal, nasal, ocular but most preferred route is the buccal route. For defining the mucoadhesive mechanism various types of theories are applied. For the formulation of mucoadhesive dosage form various types of polymers are used wich are compatible with active agent, they are biodegradable and have other numours advantages. Mucoadhesive dosage form are advantageous they increase plasma concentrations and also therapeutic effects. This review article aims to provide the overview of various aspects of mucoadhesive dosage form, their materials, wich factors affect on mucoadhesion and the recent mucoadhesive dosage form in market by treating tha various types of diseases. Also with the patent mucoadhesive dosage form wich recent in clinical trials.
