A REVIEW ON MEDICATION FOR “CILANTHI KADI” (SPIDER BITE) IN CLASSICAL SIDDHA LITERATURES

ABSTRACT
A spider bite, also known as Arachnidism, is an injury resulting from the bite of a spider. Spider bites can cause redness, pain and swelling, but they can be more painful and sometimes dangerous. Siddha classical literatures had a wide collection of medicines to treat Spider bite. The review showed that there are 28 types of spiders found in Siddha Literatures since the name of Spiders are differing from book to book. The most used plants are Eletteria Cardomomum, Aristolochia bracteolata, Indigofera tinctoria, Acalypha indica, Cinnamomum verum, Piper nigrum, Curcuma longa and Sanseviera roxburghiana.
From this Research Siddha classical literatures had a wide collection of medicines ranging from herbal, herbo – mineral drugs to treat Spider Bites. This documentation will help us a reference for emergency need and management care in case of Spider bite. This study also provides valuable information for further research purpose and antidote studies.
