PREPARATION AND THERMAL BEHAVIOUR OF UREA-VANILLIN CO-CRYSTAL

ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to screen and prepare co-crystal of urea and vanillin. In the bulk scale of crystallization, urea-vanillin (U-V) co-crystals have been synthesized by solid grinding method and slow evaporation in ethanol. Urea forms co-crystal with a 1:1 stoichiometric ratio with vanillin. Screening was performed by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The properties of solids have been altered under confinement such as melting point, dissolution and thermal stability. The difference in melting point between the urea or vanillin and the co-crystal was studied. The melting point of urea were previously high but decreased after formation of co-crystal with vanillin.
