ABSTRACT
The plant Bryophyllum pinnatum Kurz (crassulaceae) has powerful therapeutic properties. The plant has been discovered to have immunomodulatory, CNS depressant, analgesic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-anaphylactic, antileishmanial, antiulcerous, antifungal, antihistamine, antiviral, febrifuge, gastroprotective, insecticidal, muscle relaxant, and sedative properties. The current study focuses on the pharmacognostic examination of morphological and microscopical characteristics of Bryophyllum pinnatum, including leaf constants, ash values, extractive values, and
preliminary phytochemical screening of the extracts, which revealed that the plant contains alkaloids, glycosides, carbohydrates, tannins, phenolic compounds, steroids, gums, mucilage, and lignins. The presence of anisocytic type stomata is the distinguishing feature of leaf microscopy. The study's findings may be beneficial in developing certain diagnostic indices for plant identification and the creation of a botanical monograph.
