ABSTRACT
Quinazoline and quinazolinone scaffolds have sparked a significant deal of interest in medicinal chemists for the creation of new medications or drug candidates due to their pharmacological properties. In addition to having anti-cancer properties, quinazoline also has anti-microbial, anti-convulsant, and antihyperlipidemic properties. Recently, molecular hybridization technology has been used to combine two or more pharmacophores of bioactive scaffolds to create hybrid analogues with increased potency. Different physiologically active pharmacophores were molecularly hybridised
with quinazoline derivatives to produce lead compounds with multifaceted biological activity that affected both single and multiple targets. The progress in lead quinazoline hybrid compounds and their associated heterocycles in medicinal chemistry is summarised in the current study. The review also contributes to the acceleration of the drug development process by elucidating the potential contribution of these hybridised pharmacophoric properties to the manifestation of various pharmacological activities.
