ABSTRACT
Objectives: To evaluate the effects of systemic drug medications used in treating high blood cholesterols at a tertiary care hospital. Methods: A hospital-based prospective study was conducted for 6 months inwards at Bangalore Baptist Hospital (BBH). The medical history of inpatients was reviewed carefully before prescribing the anti-cholesterol drugs. The prescription patterns are well-designed and data collection was done through a survey form which included lab parameters like HDL, and LDL along with patient demographic, and previous medications. Results: out of the total patients studied (n=134), most of them were on statins (93.28 %). Among them, Atorvastatin was prescribed more with 52.98% followed by rosuvastatin (23.13%). Conclusions: According to this metadata collected males are more exposed to LLDs and they are suffering from
coronary heart diseases. Among the most prescribed LLDs are statins and fibrates, whereas atorvastatin is the most commonly prescribed drug in treating LLDs. There is a need to elevate the quality of LLTs prescribed to patients to address their safe keeping in view that rationally using lipid-lowering agents along with significant doses of statins could significantly lower the morbidity and mortality in patients.
Keywords: LLDs, lipid-lowering agents, Statins, Atorvastatin, Rosuvastatin.
