A CRITICAL APPRAISAL OF DADIMASHTAKA CHURNA

ABSTRACT
Dadimashtaka Churna (DC) is a well-known polyherbal formulation indicated in gastro-intestinal disorders such as indigestion, loss of appetite, diarrhea and other ailments. Tugakshiri, Twaka, Patra, Ajamoda, Dhanyaka, Ajaji, Granthi, Pippali, Dadima and Sita are the main ingredients of DC. Here, various references of DC are compiled from available Ayurvedic datbases such as classical texts, lexicons and then, critically analyzed in terms of ingredients, ratio, dose & their indications. Articles from various journals were also reviewed in this context. Thirteen different formulations under the name DC and two under the name of Brihata Dadimashtaka Churna (BDC) were found in the literature. A few ingredients of this formulation are similar in all
references. DC was first cited in Ashtanga Hridaya in reference of Atisara Chikitsa.
