A REVIEW ON VARIOUS PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF ARTOCARPUSHETEROPHYLLUS

ABSTRACT
In global debates, traditional herbal medicines are getting a lot of attention in the treatment of various ailments. Jackfruit is a wonder tree. Biologically it is named as Artocarpusheterophyllus. It is a species of tree of the mulberry family Moraceae and has been used by traditional folk as medicine in Indonesia. This tropical tree is a rich source of various nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, dietary fibers and phytochemicals. The fruit, its extract and various parts possess antibacterial, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-helminthic properties. It is easily available all over India but its commercial usage is underutilized mainly due to higher
portion of inedible portion which leads to waste generation and many other factors too. This review compiles numerous pharmacological activities which emphasizes on the importance of the jackfruit. There is a need to fully exploit medicinal properties of the jackfruit and tree.
