AN IMPRESSIVE APPROACH IN DIAGNOSIS AND TARGETED THERAPY VIA THERANOSTICS: APPLICATION AND FUTURE PROSPECTS – A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Theranostics is an approach to medicine that focuses on providing care that is patient-centred and is emerging as a targeted, safe, and effective pharmacotherapy. It is a combination of medicines and diagnosis. It serves as a bridge between traditional treatment and personalized medicine. It deals with creating a treatment plan specifically for each patient based on their individuality, leading to the correct drug being given to the right patient at the right time. Theranostics heavily depend on genetics. Transitioning from traditional medicine to modern individualized and precise medicine is made possible by theranostics. In the most recent theranostics paradigm, diagnostic and therapeutic applications are combined into a single agent employing nanoscience, enabling diagnosis, drug administration, and treatment response monitoring. To detect and cure diseases at the cellular and molecular level, theranostics medicine can establish systemic circulation, elude host defences, and deliver the therapeutic and diagnostic agents at the targeted place. A successful, cost-effective therapy plan is offered by theranostics. Theranostics core technologies include proteomics, pharmacogenetics, and biomarker profiling. Theranostics is an intriguing field that is valued on many different levels, with oncology being one of them. In cancer, nano-formulations such as liposomes, dendrimers, polymeric nanoparticles, metallic nanoparticles, quantum dots, and carbon nanotubes play a crucial role. Theranostics is thus a comprehensive shift away from trial-and-error medicine toward predictive, preventive, and customized medicine that results in higher-quality pharmaceutical care.
