ABSTRACT

Emulgels are the advanced and most interesting topical drug delivery system due to its dual control release pattern i.e., gel and emulsion. The main objective of the present study was to formulate and evaluate the topical emulgel system containing Fluconazole, an antifungal agent using a polymer Carbopol 934.In addition other excipients like light liquid paraffin as an oil, Tween 80 and Span 80 as an emulsifier, Propylene glycol and ethyl alcohol as cosurfactant, cetostearyl alcohol as an emulsion stabilizer and iso propyl myristate as a permeation enhancer. We prepared five Fluconazole emulgels with increasing concentration of Carbopol 934 namely F1-F5. The effect of the concentration of gelling agent on the drug release from the prepared emulgel was investigated. The prepared emulgels were done with evaluation studies like physical appearance, FTIR, spreadability, viscosity, drug content, invitro diffusion studies and kinetic studies. F1 formulation with lower concentration of Carbopol 934 showed maximum drug release.

Keywords: Emulgel, Fluconazole, Carbopol 934, Invitro drug release.
