ABSTRACT
Controlled porosity osmotic pump (CPOP) tablet of Diltiazem HCl was developed for prolonged release of drug in the GIT. Diltiazem HCl was selected as a model drug as it is having half life of 2-3 hrs. Five different formulations of CPOP were prepared each containing different osmotic agents such as NaCl, KCl, Mannitol and Dextrose for controlling the drug release and all the batches were coated by using Eudragit RS-100 as coating polymer and PEG-400 as pore forming agent. All the formulations were evaluated for post compression parameters based on In-Vitro Dissolution Studies, Batch F2 was optimized as it gives 90.10% drug release after 8 hrs. The developed osmotic tablets could be effectively used for prolonged delivery of Diltiazem HCl.
Keywords: Controlled porosity osmotic pump, diltiazem HCl, osmogen, semi permeable coating.
