OVERVIEW OF ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES ON LINCOMYCIN AND SPECTINOMYCIN AND THEIR COMBINATIONS

ABSTRACT

The focus of this review is to give a comprehensive overview of different analytical methods for determination of lincomycin, spectinomycin and their combinations in their pharmaceutical dosage forms which are used in veterinary medicines. The review implies different analytical procedures like HPLC-UV, RP-HPLC, TLC, Spectrophotometric (UV-Vis) and other methods reported till date. Lincomycin is a lincosamide antibiotic and is used to cure severe bacterial infections. Spectinomycin Hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt form of spectinomycin, an aminocyclitol antibiotic which is used to cure susceptible strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Lincomycin and spectinomycin (1:2) combination of antibiotics is utilised in veterinary medicines. This review provides summary of the work done on lincomycin and spectinomycin alone or in combination with or without presence of impurities and their degradation products.
