A REVIEW ON MEDICINALLY ACTIVE HERBAL WEED COMMELINA DIFFUSA: TRADITIONAL USES, PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITY AND PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS

ABSTRACT
The goal of this review is to collect information on Commelina diffusa's traditional uses, phytochemistry, and pharmacological activity. It's been used for years to treat urinary tract infections, swellings, inflammation, diarrhoea, hemorrhoids, conjunctivitis, and ophthalmia. Phytochemical analysis proved the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, cardiac glycosides, terpenoids, and steroids. The presence of 21 phytochemical components was confirmed by GC-MS spectrum analysis. Research studies proves that Commelina diffusa contains Anti-inflammatory, Antioxidant, Antibacterial, Antifungal, Nephro-protective, Hepatoprotective, Diuretic and CNS depressant properties. More research study is needed to prove more biological activity of Commelina diffusa.
