ABSTRACT
Nanotechnology plays an important role in the cosmetic industry due to its small particle size (10-100nm). Nanocarriers like liposomes, niosomes, nanoemulsions and nanogold have been used in the cosmetic industry to improve sustained drug release and absorption of the drug. Nanocosmeceuticals are widely used in skin, hair and nails to treat wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and hair fall nowadays. According to nanotoxicology researchers, the increased penetration of nanoparticles into the skin, causes skin cancer and various skin diseases. This review discusses the use of nanoparticles in the cosmetic industry, the various nanocarriers used, its pros and cons, & their toxicological effects.
Keywords: Nanomaterials, Nanocosmeceuticals, Nanocarriers, Nanotoxicity.
