A CRITICAL REVIEW STUDY ON TAMAKA SWASA (BRONCHIAL ASTHMA)

ABSTRACT
Tamakaswasa is one among the five varieties of swasa explained in the classics of Ayurveda. Since centuries, Tamakaswasa remained to be a challenging and unremitting disease. Out of most morbid breathing, cough are common health complains which everyone experiences throughout their life with different magnitude. Tamakaswasa is a very broad term which includes many more diseases where dyspnoea is predominant symptom. But still we can correlate Bronchial Asthma to Tamakaswasa, because out of the remaining four, three are incurable and fourth one is ksudraswasa developed due excessive labor or taking excessive Ruksh Ahara and which is easily curable. Acharya Charaka
described that Tamakaswasa is yappya type of disease in which patient has to depend upon medicines for the relief. Different concept of treatment of Tamakaswasa has been highlighted by Acharya Charaka.
