PHARMACOLOGICAL POTENTIALS STUDY OF NOVEL NUTRACEUTCAL INSULIN PLANT (COSTUS IGNEUS) IN RAYAGADA, ODISHA: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Costus igneus (Insulin plant) is one of the most ethnomedicinal herbs. This plant is native to Southeast Asia and put placed into India. It is looked as an ornamental plant in Rayagada district, Odisha. The phytoconstitutents of Costus igneus are saponins, glycoside, triterpene, flavonoid, alkaloid, and steroid. The significant of Costus igneus is called as “a leaf day keep diabetes away”. The present article aims to review pharmacological potentials study such as anti-proliferative activity, antioxidant activity, antidiabetic activity, antimicrobial activity, anti-urolithiatic activity and hepatoprotective activity. The traditional utilization of insulin plant (Costus igneus) is promoting asthma, bronchitis, reducing fever and removing intestinal worms.
