MAHARASHA THE MINERALOGICAL IDENTIFICATION REVIEW

ABSTRACT
In Ayurvedic pharmaceutics Rasaushadhi are well known for treating various chronic diseases. These formulations are a combination of mercury, minerals, metals, precious stones, calcium and alkaline compounds. Minerals are again classified into Maharasha, uparasa and sadharanarasa- based on its utility in processes of Parada (Mercury). Maharasha dravya have rasayana (Rejuvenating) and yogavahi (Synergistic) property which aid in giving action as hrudya (Beneficial to heart). In present due to scarcity, unavailability, miss interpretations of the drug many of the drugs and formulations are not in use and highlighted them in the group of Controversy. If the controversies which are present in branch of science not resolved, it going to harm
the existence of drugs explained in text book. To preserve the treasure of science it is need of hour to carryout scientific validation process and giving the such identification for the Rasadravya. In this article review of mineralogical identifications of the maharasha varga is carried out.
