EFFECT OF ASHTAMANGALA GHRITA LEHANA KARMA ON CHILD DEVELOPMENT: A LITERARY REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Ashtamangala Ghrit is one polyherbal formulation Mentioned in Bhaisajya Ratnavali Rakshoghna (protection from the infection), enhance Medha (intellect) and Smriti (Memory) that helps in Physical and Mental development of Child. It contains eight drugs viz., Vacha Acarus calamus Linn. (Fam. Araceae), Kushtha Saussurea lappa C.B.Clarke (Fam. Compositae), Brahmi Bacopa monnieri (Linn.) Wettst., Herpestis monnieria (LiM.) H.B.& K. (Fam. Scrophulariaceae), Sariva Hemidesmus indicus (Linn.) R. Br. (Fam. Asclepiadaceae), Pippali Piper longum Linn. (Fam. Piperaceae), Siddharthaka Brassica campestris Linn. (Fam. Brassicaceae), Ghee and Saindhav (Rock salt). It was explained in Vagabhatta,[1]
Yogaratnakara[2] and Kashyap Samhita.[3] The drugs used in this formulation work as nootropic, improves nerve impulse transmission, increasing density of cholinergic neurons in hippocampus, memory enhancer, neuroprotective and antioxidant, and bioavailability enhancer.
