ABSTRACT
A study was conducted to determine the antibacterial and antifungal activities of Ziziphus oenoplia (L.) root extract on ethanol against both bacteria and fungi using the disc diffusion method. The extract showed significant antibacterial activities against two gram-positive ( Stapphylococcus aureus and Enterococci) and six gram-negative (Escherichia coli,Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi ,vibriocholerae, serretia and kleibsella pneumoniae) bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values against these bacteria ranged from 66.66 to 266.66μg/ml. The antifungal activities were found strong against four fungi ( Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Candida albicans, Rhizopus oryzae ). It can be used in the folk medicine at different parts of the world to treat many diseases including bacterial and fungal infections.
