STANDARDISATION OF SIDDHA POLY HERBAL FORMULATION KADUKKAI NEI FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF OBESITY

ABSTRACT
Obesity is a morbid disease associated with Diabetes mellitus, Coronary heart disease, certain forms of Cancer, and sleep-breathing disorders became an epidemic now threatening the global well being. Siddha medicine is one of the ancient Tamil medical systems in South India. Many Siddha herbal formulations are effective and have been used to treat obesity. Kadukkai Nei is one among the poly herbal Siddha formulation composed of eleven herbals indicated for the treatment of obesity described in the Siddha manuscript Agathiar vaidya vallathi 600.Chronic use of medicinal plants and other natural substances produce mild or no toxicity effects cause significant weight loss. Hence the standardization of Kadukkai Nei is essential in present scenario to disintegrate the chain of obesity associated diseases and its co morbidities and thereby preventing the complications of obesity. Standardization of Medicated ghee-Kadukkai Nei done as per the Pharmacopial laboratory standards of Indian medicine which includes analysis of Physicochemical, Biochemical, Phytochemical, HPTLC, Heavy metal analysis, Microbial contamination-Total Bacterial, Total Fungal, specific pathogen, Pesticide residue, Aflatoxins. From the above mentioned analytical studies, it was found to have various phytochemicals present in Kadukkai Nei possess anti obesity activity. Also found free from microbial contamination, specific pathogen, heavy metals, pesticide residue, Aflatoxins detected as Below the Limit of Quantification. The present study revealed that the Kadukkai Nei possess a high remarkable medicinal value for the treatment of obesity.
