ANALYTICAL STUDY OF JAMUN (SYZIGIUM CUMUNI LINN.)

ABSTRACT
Jamun (Syzigium cumuni) is a large evergreen tree. It attains a height of up to about 100 feet. It is native to Indian subcontinent, widely grown for fruits and shadow due to presence of dense foliage. Bark pale brown, slightly rough on old stems. It is a widely used medicinal plant throughout India and popular in various Indigenous System of Medicine like Ayurveda and Siddha. In the Traditional System of Medicine, the various plant parts such as bark, fruit, seed and leaf are used. Jamun is considered as summer super fruit due to its nutritional
value. High content of water in fruits help in combating summer. Being rich source of vitamin B complex and C is immune booster. It is generally used in diabetes, leucorrhea, gastric disorder. Apart from that jamun also has some cultural value. Due to medicinal properties it is gaining attention worldwide.
