A SHORT REVIEW ON TERATOGENICITY
Rutua T. Bedse, Dhananjay D. Chaudhari* and Paresh Patil
ABSTRACT
Teratogenicity, or reproductive and developmental toxicity, is increasingly recognized as an important part of overall toxicology. Each compound has a unique toxicity profile and teratogenic mechanism. The current perspective has been to study and validate the teratogenic mechanisms and the combined teratogenic effects of teratogenic compounds, biological and physical agents. Every year, millions of different chemicals are manufactured and used around the world, polluting the environment and consequently exposing humans. Many of these chemicals have the ability to penetrate human tissues and cause fetal development, adversely affecting human reproductive health. Many of the teratogenic effects are caused by biological and physical agents such as infection and radiation.
