ABSTRACT
Ayurveda being a science of medicine has withstood the test of time through its intricate principles. It has many answers posed by the modern biology or other contemporary sciences. Epilepsy is a neurological condition characterized by prolonged seizures having obstinate Musculo-skeletal effects. Grandmal seizures are tonic-clonic sizures which are primarily generalized. These seizures usually begin abruptly without any warning and stays for a comparatively longer period. Apasmara has been told to be manifested because of kupita sharirika and manasika doshas. Smritisgara rasa has been explained by Yogaratnakara in the context of Apasmara chikitsa. Original reference is from Rasa ratna pradipa. The ingredients are Shuddha Parada, Shuddha Gandhaka, Shuddha Haratala, Shuddha Manashila and Tamra bhasma. Apasmara is a compound disease which involves multiple organ systems. It is both psychotic and psycho somatic disease. Hence
there should be a holistic approach towards its management. Here, Smritisagara Rasa might play a bigger role in mitigating and reversing seizure pathology.
