COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW ON ANTI-CANCER POTENTIALS OF INGREDIENTS OF BILWADI GUTIKA

ABSTRACT

Agada tantra is one among the eight branches of Ayurveda which deals with different aspects of Visha (Poison). Gara visha (Concocted poison) is a unique concept explained in Ayurveda classics. It is composition of low potent poisonous material which interferes with the digestive process and produces chronic toxicity when taken with food products. By analyzing the etiology, pathogenesis and symptoms it can be correlated to cancer in modern perspective. Bilwadi gutika is an herbal preparation explained in Astanga hrudaya and it is indicated in Gara visha (Concocted poison) conditions. It is having many chemical constituents which are proven to have anticancer potentials which includes, antioxidant activity, inhibition of cancer cell growth, induction of apoptosis, antitumor activity, cancer cell cytotoxicity, etc. without harming normal cells. In this article, a comprehensive pharmacological review is done to understand the anticancer potentials of ingredients of Bilwadi Gutika.
