ABSTRACT

A Prospective observational study was conducted on 108 patients for a period of 6 months in tertiary care hospital, our study is to evaluate the antibiotics prescribed for UTI patients, to evaluate the prescription pattern of antibiotics for UTIs in pregnancy, to evaluate the treatment of UTI according to WHO guidelines, to describe antibiotics prescribed to recurrent UTI patients. Resulted Piperacillin+tazobactum (23.14%) and Cefoperazone+sulbactum (30.55%) are most commonly prescribed antibiotics. Amoxicillin (53.84%) is a choice of antibiotic in pregnancy. Meropenem (7.40%) was prescribed to most recurrent UTI patients. 75% of prescriptions adhered to WHO guidelines while 25% of prescriptions deviated. Our study concludes that all patients were screened, diagnosed with UTI, treated appropriately, and recovered resulting in a 0% mortality rate and decreased morbidity. The early diagnosis of patients’ conditions and treating them with the right choice of antibiotics has resulted in decreased morbidity, mortality, and increased rate of recovery and cure in patients.
